I spent nearly two months at the Tiger Muay Thai and MMA training camp on the island of Phuket, Thailand and had a wonderful time enjoying Thai culture, meeting the Muay Thai trainers and staff at Tiger Muay Thai, however, what happened was I ended up losing 21 pounds in almost two months and enjoying every minute of exercise and training Muay Thai. Your First Self Defense Priority – Knowing the Freeze
Friday, January 8th, 2010As a predator attacks, your body will go into an adrenal state. You are flooded with adrenaline (epinephrine), noradrenalin and cortisol. The good news is these chemicals perform several positive actions in the body that make them very effective. They dilate the pupils to increase the amount of light that enters the eyes, they cause sweating to help dissipate heat, they increase the heart rate and force contraction, which will increase blood flow to the muscles so they are ready to move, and they make glucose available in the blood for use by other organs.
All these hormones work together in conjunction to assure that we can both engage in a physical altercation (Fight) or escape and avoid (Flight). Despite our bodies’ best efforts, however, without proper training a surge of these chemicals can cause the body to freeze. (more…)

The rise of the UFC
Sunday, January 3rd, 2010Since the first time I saw Joyce Gracie submit fighters twice his size, I have been a fan of the UFC. The sport has come a long way since those early years of no-holds barred competition. The emergence of a certain set of rules banning certain strikes and holds, and different weight classes have helped to solidify the UFC as a major sport. Although I do miss those those old David vs. Goliath matches, The UFC is more entertaining than ever. I love the fact that it has the excitement and spectacles of the WWE, but it doesn’t have the corny pre-written scripts and outcomes. These characters are for real, and people either love them or love to hate them.
Hiring Dana White as president has been a very good decision by the UFC. He is a natural born promoter that handles himself very well and interviews and knows how to bring in the fans. (more…)

How To Keep Your Gas In A Boxing Match
Monday, December 7th, 2009You often see this: a boxer who are overly aggressive in the first few rounds and then stalls at later rounds because he doesn’t have any gas left in his tank. Professional or not, a boxer who loses his energy rapidly that he cannot go any longer and eventually lose the fight. No matter how hard a boxer punches or how strong his chin is, if he has no gas in his tank will likely not win.
That said, it is vital for a boxer to conserve as much energy as he can and use it at the right times. Accept it, your energy is limited, and when you are out of gas, you are out of gas. There should be no argument about that. (more…)
